Description

Three swans swim together in a moat in this calm woodblock print by Kasamatsu Shiro. A not often stressed detail is the striking reflection in the water. On closer inspection of the way Kasamatsu depicts the water here, it is surprising how, with only a limited number of elements, he creates the convincing impression of water that reflects, sways, and bears the swans floating upon it. There are small differences in the design over the years, but the publisher Unsodo has kept publishing new editions from the original woodblocks until at least the Heisei period.

Condition notes

The print is in excellent condition. A number appears in pencil on the verso.
