Snowy Day at the Five-Storied Pagoda in Ueno is one of only two known Shin-hanga designs by Shintaro Okazaki. It is unknown why he made only two woodblock print designs, and somewhat surprising given their success. The scene depicts wild snow whirling around a pagoda. The technique used builds on those established by Shin-hanga artists active before the war already, like Kawase Hasui, but Shintaro enlarged the snowflakes, leading to a stormlike impression.
