Rakusan Tsuchiya – Crimson Lotus and Kingfisher (Mid Summer) (Tsuchiya Rakusan – Guren ni kawasemi)

Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1932. The first edition was published in 1932 or shortly thereafter. This is a recent edition, published using the original woodblocks.

A kingfisher can be seen flying past a series of Crimson Lotus plants, bringing together the specialties of displaying both birds and flowers by Rakusan Tsuchiya. Please visit rakusan.net for further information about the artists and his works.

The original woodblocks of this print were acquired by the publisher Unsodo in recent years and subsequently used to print the edition shown here. The printing instructions were no longer accompanying the woodblocks, but the result is impressively close to the first editions.

The print is in excellent condition.
