Nison-in Temple

Description

Depicted here is the main gate of the Nison-in Temple, a Buddhist temple in Kyoto. Teruhide Kato often utilizes unusual perspectives in his art. Whereas most artists would show the temple, or its gate, from the outside, Teruhide Kato’s composition reverses this, and lets the viewer look from almost within the gate to the surrounding trees and night, successfully drawing the observer into the image.
