Koyo Omura

1891–1983

Koyo Omura (1891–1983) is one of the few Japanese painters who were active for the Kyoto publisher Kyoto Hanga-in shortly after the war. These artists produced a number of woodblock prints in the Shin Hanga style, but with a far more painterly atmosphere than usual. Well known among these is Eiichi Kotozuka, but as Koyo Omura produced only a very limited number of designs, in what must have been relatively small editions, his works are seen much more rarely.
