Koizumi Kishio – Botanical Garden in May

Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1934. The current print was printed in the 20th century, 1st half.

Image size (excluding margins): 28.2 * 37.2 cm (11.1 * 14.6 in).

The print is in fair state. There are many wrinkles inside the image. There are some foxing spots in the margins, and the upper margin has soiled slightly. The colors have been retained well.

Koizumi Kishio (1893-1945) is renowned as the creator of the print series One Hundred Views of Great Tokyo in the Showa Era. This series chronicles Tokyo in the decades before the war, and its prints are widely sought after. As a member of the Sosaku Hanga movement, Koizumi Kishio carved and printed his woodblock prints himself. His works showcase advanced technical prowess and a visual style that holds strong appeal to this day.
