Hajime Namiki – Dragon 8
Original woodblock print, hand-signed and numbered 46/300 by the artist. First published in 2007.
Large, squared dragon print by Hajime Namiki. The dragon appears from behind an abstract pattern, perhaps crossing from one world to another, or possibly from a sea, river or lake, more common surroundings for Japanese dragons then the air or clouds. The dragon itself has claws, antlers, scales and (besides having four in stead of just three claws) is very much depicted as being a traditional Japanese dragon. Dragons have been a recurring theme for Japanese woodblock artists, and Hajime Namiki’s composition is reminiscent of one of the dragons depicted by Hokusai:
As often with prints by Hajime Namiki, the background varies in color and shine depending on the light.
Image size (excluding margins): 38.1 * 38.1 cm (15.0 * 15.0 in).
Please note that there are a number of wrinkels in the paper. This is quite common in the margins with prints by Hajime Namiki, but the current print also has a wrinkle in the image itself. Even if it is not very disturbing, it is visible and one of the pictures (of the tail) serves to show it.
The pictures shown here are from the print itself.
