Tsuchiya Koitsu – Snow at Miyajima

Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1937. The current print was printed circa 1950s or early 1960s.

Image size (excluding margins): 24.1 * 36.4 cm (9.5 * 14.3 in).

The print is in fair state. It has browned strongly, as can be seen on the left where its colors were retained better. In the upper left corner a number has been written in pencil. Remnants of a previous backing remain on a large part of the back, and on the right margin.

Tsuchiya Koitsu (1870-1949) was a Japanese woodblock print artist. He is known for his high-quality Shin hanga prints, excelling in the depiction of light and shadow and the expression of mood.
