Description
The print depicts the most famous Wedded Rocks in Futami Bay, part of Ise Bay, with the sun rising in the back. The two rocks rise from the ocean and are attached together by rope. This symbolizes the loyalty and connection between man and woman. The rocks play a role in the Shinto religion and the bigger rock has a Torii on top of it. The rocks had been depicted by woodblock artists before, for example by Utagawa Hiroshige, but Tokuriki Tomikichiro shows them in a print in typical Shin-hanga style.
Condition notes
The print is in good state and has very vibrant colors, however there are a few spots in the image, there is a number noted in pencil on the back in the margin and the paper is slightly thinner in two spots on the back, presumably due to a previous mounting.
