Ohara Koson – Snow on Willow Bridge (Shoson Ohara – Yanagibashi no Yuki)
The current print is offered on behalf of a long-time Dutch collector. This does not change anything for customers wishing to buy, except that the print will only be available for a fixed period of time.
Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1927. Part of the snow has been created by applying pulverized seashells manually, very successfully done for the current impression. It carries the Watanabe 6mm seal and is from an early post-war edition.
Ohara Koson’s ‘Snow on Willow Bridge’ is regarded as his best landscape print, and is one of the most famous Shin hanga prints. Two women walk through snow over the Willow Bridge, with the Ryogoku bridge in the background.
Image size (excluding margins): 36.1 * 24.0 cm (14.2 * 9.4 in).
The print is in very good state. There is very mild matburn around the edge of the margins, and on the back remnants of a previous mounting remain. Unlike with many copies of this design, the colors have been retained very well.
The pictures shown here are from the print itself.
