Kobayashi Kiyochika – The Koromo River Below the Temple Tennoji

Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1880. The current print is from an early, but not first, edition.

In this rare design Kobayashi Kiyochika shows his mastery of night scenes, with light here coming from a house, a lantern, many fireflies, and reflections in the water. Woodblock print artists before him had displayed the night as well, but did not manage to capture the darkness as realistically as Kiyochika.

Image size (excluding margins): 20.2 * 32.5 cm (8.0 * 12.8 in).

The print is in very good state. On the back there is a label and small notes in pencil. There is no centerfold.
