Kawase Hasui – Spring Snow at Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto (Hasui Kawase – Haru no yuki (Kyo no kiyomizu))
Original woodblock print on Washi paper. First edition in 1932. This an edition printed between 1981 and 1995 using the original woodblocks.
Here Kawase Hasui, one of the great masters of snow scenes, shows snow covering the Kiyomizudera in spring. A number of people are present, some hardly visible within the building itself, stressing the largeness and height of the temple. Further away, other buildings of the wider temple complex are still vaguely discernible through the falling snow.
The Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto serves as inspiration for woodblock print artists to this very day. Its uniqueness and elaborate structure make it especially suitable for impressive prints, such as the current one.
Image size (excluding margins): 36 * 23.8 cm.
Please note that each print is unique. Since of some prints we have multiple copies, the pictures displayed here can differ slightly from the actual print.
