Kawase Hasui – Spring Snow at Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto (Hasui Kawase – Haru no Yuki (Kyo no Kiyomizu))
Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1932. The current print was printed in the Reiwa period (2019 – present).
Here Kawase Hasui, one of the great masters of snow scenes, shows snow covering the Kiyomizudera in spring. A number of people are present, some hardly visible within the building itself, stressing the largeness and height of the temple. Further away, other buildings of the wider temple complex are still vaguely discernible through the falling snow.
The Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto serves as inspiration for woodblock print artists to this very day. Its uniqueness and elaborate structure make it especially suitable for impressive prints, such as the current one.
Image size (excluding margins): 36.0 * 23.8 cm (14.2 * 9.4 in).
The print is in excellent condition. There are very mild wrinkles just above the mountain in the back to the right.
The pictures shown here are from the print itself.
