Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) – Spring Moon, Ninomiya Beach (Hasui Kawase – Haru no tsuki, Ninomiya kaigan)
Original woodblock print. The first edition of this design was published in 1932. The current print was printed in the Reiwa period (2019 – present).
Kawase Hasui, like a number of other woodblock print artists, excelled at night scenes as well. Here he masterfully captures how the full moon and the glittering, reflecting sea manage to brighten the spring night.
In the right margin the title has been written Spring Moon (Ninomiya Beach) (春ノ月(二宮海岸)) along with the month and year of the first edition Made in March, Showa 7 (1932) (昭和七年三月作).
Image size (excluding margins): 36.5 * 24.0 cm (14.4 * 9.4 in).
The print is in excellent condition.
The pictures shown here are from the print itself.
