Kawase Hasui – Evening Snowfall at Kiyomizu Temple (Hasui Kawase – Kiyomizudera no bosetsu)
Original woodblock print on Washi paper.
The first edition is from 1950. The current print is from the Heisei period (1989 – 2019)
Kawase Hasui shows the Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto immersed in snow. Two figures can be seen walking, using umbrellas against the snow.
The scene is somewhat reminiscent of another print by Hasui, namely ‘Spring Snow at Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto’, found here.
The print is in excellent state and mounted to its folder along one edge, not bordering the image. There are two small imperfections in the paper visible, shown in close-up photos. The folder itself has a number written in pencil on it and there is a spot on the folder where the paper is damaged slightly.
The print bears the Watanabe 7mm seal in the lower left corner of the image and the Watanabe red Heisei seal to the right of the image.
Image size (excluding margins): 36.6 * 24.2 cm.
Please note that each print is unique. Since of some prints we have multiple copies, the pictures displayed here
can differ slightly from the actual print.
