Hajime Namiki – Weeping Cherry 24

Original woodblock print, hand-signed and numbered 115/200 by the artist. First published in 2019.

The print, like the others in the series, shows a Weeping Cherry tree, this time against a golden background. The golden or silver backgrounds used by Hajime Namiki vary quite a bit, but, though almost all are magnificent, the current print seems to be even more exceptionally well printed. Together with the beautiful design, this might make it one of the finest Weeping Cherry tree prints.

Image size (excluding margins): 27.0 * 39.0 cm (10.6 * 15.4 in).

There are imperfections in the paper in the margin.

Hajime Namiki (b. 1947) is a modern Japanese woodblock artist. Originally trained as a sculptor, he transitioned to woodblock printing in the late 1970s. He limits himself to a small number of themes, and within those he experiments and varies a tremendous amount. Among these themes, are trees scenes (varying from dogwood to pine trees), dragons and cherry blossoms.
